What these are knitted from
A cotton sweater behaves differently from a wool one in ways that matter more than the label suggests. The Marlowe, the Noa and the Wren are 100% cotton, and the Romy is cotton with a little viscose for softness. Cotton breathes, which is why a cotton sweater women can wear indoors all day will not overheat the way wool does in a warm room. It takes a machine wash. It holds its knitted shape instead of relaxing and growing over a season, so the fit you buy is close to the fit you keep. What cotton gives up is insulation for its weight, and the trade is a knit that works across a much wider stretch of the year than a heavy wool one.
Gauge, weight and drape
Gauge is how tightly the yarn is worked, and it changes a sweater more than color or cut does. Worked loosely, as in the Wren's open weave, the fabric is lighter, falls closer to the body and slips under a jacket without adding bulk. Worked into a structure, as in the Noa's waffle knit or the Marlowe's rib, it stands away from the body and holds a shape of its own. You can see the spread in the measurements. At size small the Romy is 29 inches through the chest and the Juna is 44.5, a fifteen inch range inside one collection. Each knit top women choose here sits somewhere deliberate on that scale, from close-cut to genuinely roomy. More lightweight layers sit in tops.
The cashmere pieces
The Juna and the Ivy are both 100% cashmere. The Juna is a relaxed mock neck with a delicate stitch running down the center back and slits at the side, and at 44.5 inches in the chest it is cut generously. The Ivy is a cardigan with a classic button front in a saturated red, cut with a little ease for layering over a tee or a tank. Cashmere is the reason both are priced where they are: it gives more warmth for its weight than any cotton knit can, and it feels different against the skin. It asks for hand washing in return. Worth noting that the Ivy comes in combined sizes, XS/S and M/L, where the other styles here run XS to L.
Layering over denim
Body length is what decides how a sweater sits against a jean. The Romy at 19.5 inches and the Noa at 21 both finish at or just above a waistband, which makes them the natural partners for high rise denim, where the point is to keep the waist visible. The Wren and the Juna at 22 inches cover the waistband and sit more easily over a mid rise. The Marlowe is a sweater vest, designed to go over something, most obviously a long sleeve underneath. The Romy works the same way in reverse, as a sweater tank under a jacket. Each of them is cut to sit with AMO denim.
